THE DESIGN PROCESS
Our first prototype was testing to get just the right amount of stiffness in the spring that would withstand any jerking or pulling from dogs up to 150 lbs. The second prototype was perfecting the pole design to get it optimal length and width. The third and final prototype combined the first two and created the tested, tried, and true Leash Buddy system you see today.
OUR STORY
Enter Blake's friend and co-founder Chris Greiner. He owns a high-energy Frenchie named Bear. Chris had seen people trying to shortcut the time it took to exercise their dogs by riding a bike while holding a leash. Oh, and they did this while they tried to steer...and keep the dog from pulling...and generally trying not to die. After getting over the hilarity of how many well intentioned pet owners’ bike rides probably ended in unplanned meetings with the pavement - he had a second thought - They might be onto something! A leisurely bike ride is around 8 mph - the perfect speed for a high energy dog to trot alongside the bike - but not too fast either. Over a phone call, Chris told Blake about the idea he had to build a new product that would solve the pet exercise problem by using a bike. But this product HAD to be better than holding a leash and praying that no squirrels caught our pets’ attention. And thus leash buddy was born!
